A Simple Prayer for Remembering

by Clarissa Pinkola Estés, PhD (from How to Be an Elder)

“We do not become healers, we came here to Earth as healers. We are healers. Some of us are still catching up to what we are.

We do not become storytellers. We came as carriers of stories and we are storytellers and some of us are still catching up to what we really are.

We don’t become artists, we came to this Earth as artists to this Earth. We are artists, some of us are still catching up to the fact of what we actually are.

We don’t become writers, dancers, musicians, helpers, peacemakers, elders, we came as such. We are. Some of us are still catching up a little bit to what we actually are.

And we do not learn to love, we came as love. We came to this Earth as love, and some of us are still catching up to what we truly are.

And let it be so. Let you be caught up, let you let go, let you be caught up, with who you actually are.

The one who sent you here and the work that you have here, as being in your own way, de la que sabe, the rememberer, the one who knows, for the no que sabes, for the ones who do not yet know. And may when you are a no que sabe, may an elder step from this side of the road, and guide you, tell you, help you, educate you.”
